ex - ATSF lightweight diner at Houston - May 1987.
I don't have the number but this is an early Santa Fe diner that was used at a couple of restaurants around town - including Sonny Looks for years and finally here at another restaurant on the west side of town. It would be moved shortly from this location to I don't know where.

It's hard to see , but the last GP7 has air tanks on top (for passenger service?). I don't remember seeing any pictures but I guess the Santa Fe used GP7s' for some passenger runs?

Santa Fe F7 #335 on the "Cane Belt" branch.

Quite a change for ex-passenger unit #335 from the Super Chief, Texas Chief etc. to this weed spraying train on a branch line in Texas.
Southbound on the abandoned Santa Fe Cane Belt branch near Glen Flora. This line came off the ATSF at Sealy and went to Matagorda.
It was the Cane Belt because of the sugar cane that was grown near the line when it was built in the late 1800's.
I like the wooden crossbuck -- of the thousands that used to be in Texas - I guess very few have survived.

There were quite a few interesting heavyweights at Navasota that day and I will get some of them scanned ,eventually. Santa Fe had one of the - if not the - largest collection of heavyweight passenger cars in work service. Unfortunately I believe most of them are gone.
This is on the Beaumont-Somerville line.
The freight station in the background (still had an agent at the time) is long gone.

#2099 looks like it was recently released from being rebuilt at the Cleburne shops.
Northbound on the Galveston/Houston - Ft.Worth line, this train is going into the now abandoned Bellville yards.
A typical interesting lashup at this time (Santa Fe ran a lot of their older engines in Texas) - no complaints from me!
The B unit is still in passenger paint.
