Eastbound between New Orleans and Mobile on CSX ex-L&N line as evidenced by the L&N concrete mile marker (mileage from Cincinnati, I believe). There were quite a few of these markers in this area.

Westbound between Houston and San Antonio (about 120 miles west of Houston) #5859 is crossing the SP (ex-San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railway) Yoakum-Hearne line at Tower 3. Tower 3 - built in 1902 - was closed by the UP two days after the announcement of the SP takeover. It was saved and moved a short distance away.

CSX2588_FlomatonAl_Dec90.jpg 383.78 KB 1024x727x24(RGB) A southbound rail train passes through the CSX yard at Flomaton,Alabama on the ex-L&N line to New Orleans. This is about 55 miles from Mobile, with the line to Pensacola curving off to the right (the route of the Sunset Limited before the hurricane). This area still had the L&N look to it with the signals, pole line, concrete mile markers and the coaling tower seen in the distance. The L&N marked freight car to the left (which had been in this siding who knows how long) helped out. I haven't been here in a number of years but I believe CSX has cleaned it up a bit.

CSX Funits HardyStShops Houston March90a.jpg 250.72 KB 1024x633x24(RGB) (1) CSX F units - a surprise visit - at Houston
The CSX F units made a surprise visit to Houston in 1990 with a business car special. I heard the units would be fueled at the SP Hardy St. Shops in the evening, so I raced out there after work. It was kind of late in the evening for decent shots but since this was the only time I ever saw these units it was fun anyway.
(1) The engines have just been fueled at the Hardy St. Shops (just to the left) and are waiting for a signal to proceed backwards all the way to the Amtrak station. The track to the right is the SP freight bypass route (missing the station downtown). The engines will back down almost to Tower 26 (the building beyond the signals in the far distance to the left of the track) where they will transfer to the passenger main and head right, to the Amtrak station downtown.

A mile or less from the downtown Amtrak station about to pass one of the still numerous SP wig wag signals in the downtown area (all gone now of course). The setting sun made for unusual lighting conditions.
