exLN_SW1_13_FoleyAl_June02a.jpg 173.00 Kb (1) ex - L&N SW1 #13 at Foley,Al -- June 2002.
The Foley Museum aquired a nice addition at the end of May. This ex-L&N unit had been in private hands in Pascagoula,Ms (they trucked it about 80 miles). L&N had sold it to private industry in the 60's. Foley was at the end of the L&N Bay Minette branch till it was abandoned in the early 80's. The museum started up 4 or 5 years ago when the station (which had been moved to the edge of town) was moved back to its original position. A couple of freight cars (a nice Frisco and Great Northern till they painted them over) and a caboose were added. Inside are a nice collection of railroad artifacts along with a history of Foley. Their main decision on the engine was which end of the train to put it on. If they put it behind the caboose it would be very close to the main highway 98 - the other way would look like a "real" train. They decided to put it on the north end - looking like it was ready for departure to Bay Minette. The plans are to paint the engine in the early L&N paint scheme (from the 50's I guess). Some of the Louisville & Nashville lettering can be seen on the engine.
