This baggage car without trucks was used as storage by the Penn Central at the back of the ex-PRR roundhouse and shops. An interesting device in the foreground -- I wonder if it was used by the Pennsy in the shops? December 1978

After a very successful trip to the 1990 NRHS convention in St.Louis, #819 heads back home to Pine Bluff thru Illinois. #819 is stored where it was built -- at the Cotton Belt Shops in Pine Bluff. Stored servicable? I'm not sure.

airdevice_NewOrleans_UnionSt_Aug80.jpg 211.48 KB 1024x690x24(RGB) Old air device at New Orleans Union Station
Hard to see thru the steam leaks , but this ancient looking device was being used on the rear of the Sunset Ltd at Union Station. It was a two way hose to keep both the brake pipe and conductors signal line charged with air. That way when the locomotives back onto the train the brake pipe has been precharged and the cars are ready for a brake test. This system also provides air preasure for the water systems while the cars are sitting in the depot (thanks to "morail" on Trainorders for this info).

The interlocking signal is for the crossing with the Santa Fe Southern Division. The wig wag may have been the last one in Texas.

TCS510_GeorgetownTx_April81.jpg 218.85 KB 1024x589x24(RGB) (1) Texas Crushed Stone Baldwin #510 at Georgetown,Tx
DS44-750 #510 was built in 1949 for the Texas Mexican RR. It was sold to TCS sometime in the 70's and worked at their gravel yard/pit in Georgetown. Later it worked the TCS gravel yard near the MKT Eureka Yard in Houston till the mid-80's when it was no longer needed. Luckily it was saved and aquired by the Gulf Coast Chapter NRHS in Houston. They have painted it back to the original Tex-Mex paint scheme.

SP was still using the buildings to the left. The Texas Southern operated a great looking dinner train on the SP Sunset Route mainline from San Antonio to Hondo. The units came from the US Steel line in Wyoming. Unfortunately, most everything was sold around '90 or so.

PIR_2340_2342_McKeesRocksPa_Nov98.jpg 289.12 KB 1024x665x24(RGB) (1) Pittsburgh Industrial RR engines at McKees Rocks,Pa
SW1500 #2340 and 2342 at the ex-P&LE shops at McKees Rocks,Pa. I believe the Ohio Central took over this line and these engines are elsewhere?
EMD100469 on Trainorders said: The P&LE did own part of where these locomotives are setting but it wasn't called the P&LE it was the PC&Y Railroad (Pittsburg Chartiers and Youghiogheny). That is the POHC yard office in one of those shots. The Ohio Central does own the railroad now and its called the Pittsburgh and Ohio Central. When it was bought these 2 locos costed too much and were not bought when the deal went through. I belive that one of them is still in the PIR paint, it wasn't long ago I came across the photos of it online.
SD40T-2_fan on Trainorders said: Both engines are now on the Indiana & Ohio Railway, and both still in full PIR paint and markings, one is based in Lancaster,Ohio on the Lancaster switcher the other is floating around Cincinnati,Ohio on local jobs.

Here is VO-1000 #1107 on the Western Railroad Company in Texas. I don't exactly remember where this was -- I believe it was along the Missouri Pacific. I remember seeing WRRC engines from the InterAmerican. It might have been near New Braunfels? Anyway #1107 was built in 1943 for the Colorado & Wyoming. Luckily it was saved and is now at the Age of Steam Railroad Museum in Dallas.

After retirement in 1955 #2707 was placed at Brookside Park till it was sent to a scrapper shortly after this shot. It was later saved and stored at the B&O roundhouse in Cleveland. In the early 90's it was moved to its current location at the Illinois Railroad Museum. That's the info I found while searching around the net.
