In the 50's and 60's while this was still owned by the Akron Canton & Youngstown RR - the engines would have been virtually all Fairbanks-Morse .
Today - the Wheeling and Lake Erie operates this line.

These units were recently retired from active service (at the time) but were painted up and brought back for this excursion run to a cement plant near Roanoke.

Taken from the dirty windows of a Cleveland Transit train.
Between the towers and to the left can be seen the remnants of the electrified line that ran from Collinwood yard to Terminal Tower downtown - mainly for passenger trains - it was de-activated in the mid-50s.

(1) N&W commuter train at Chicago -- September 1977
Inbound to Union Station crossing the 21st street bridge. A year or less before, this train still operated out of Dearborn Station (at least next to it). This was a Wabash train before the 1964 merger.

(2) N&W commuter train at Chicago -- September 1977
The consist is pulled out to the yards to wait for the evening run. I don't believe Amtrak acquired very many (if any) N&W coaches - probably because they were Pullman-Standard - so the N&W had plenty to use on the commuter run. An Amtrak French Turbo is headed to Union Station.
