Riding Mountain Park was built in 1954 by Budd for the Canadian. A dome Obs. bar lounge with 3 bedrooms and a drawing room. The car now resides in Blissfield, Michigan, on the property of the Adrian and Blissfield RR. Plan is to upgrade for dinner train private parties and then upgrade mechaicals for riding behind Amtrak (thanks to "flatwheel" on Trainorders for the info).

The unit on the right was ex-C&EI -- built in 1955 with 44 seats and a snack bar. The unit on the far left was built in 1956 for the MKT then sold to the C&O in 1962 then on to the CN in 1965. It had 44 seats with a baggage/RPO section.

A couple of shots of the Cavalier under Toronto Union Station as I waited to board the overnight Toronto-Montreal train. Sleeping car passengers could board a couple of hours before departure. The lounge car was also open for service.

VIA Super Continental at Toronto
This was my sleeper from Vancouver. The Emerald was an ex-CN 4 section-8 duplex roomette-4 bedroom car built by Pullman-Standard in 1954. I occupied one of the roomettes. Unlike Amtrak which didn't sell sections as sleeper space (on the few cars that had them), VIA did sell them as they were intended, had quite a few cars with sections and from my observations they were very popular.

The Algonquin Park brings up the rear of the Canadian at Winnepeg (eastbound). I had arrived on the Super Continental (the Canadian had arrived 1-2 hours earlier). The trains would be combined to Sudbury. The Super C consist on the left.

Super Continental and Canadian at Winnipeg -- December 1980
The eastbound Super Continental (part of the consist on the left) combined with the eastbound Canadian from Winnipeg to Sudbury. The combined consist is on the right. The Canadian had arrived 1-2 hours earlier and long station stops were the norm during this time period.
